What is TTouch?

The Tellington TTouch is a way of working with dogs and other animals that incorporates gentle handling techniques and guided physical exercises. These are designed to bring about changes in the animal on a physical, emotional and behavioural level by improving the animal’s coordination and balance, reducing stress and helping them to learn new ways of responding.

Around the world the TTouch Method is used in many environments such as animal shelters and zoos, with working animals such as assistance dogs and with pets. TTouch blends well with many other modalities and training methods. It is not necessary to adopt the whole TTouch philosophy. Learning just a few of the simple body TTouches and movements can help make a difference to an animal’s well-being and to the human-animal relationship.

Groundwork exerciseAnyone who is involved with animals can benefit from learning TTouch techniques – groomers, shelter staff, veterinarians, veterinary nurses, animal trainers, agility and working trials competitors, breed show competitors and pet owners have all attended workshops and added TTouch tools to the skills already in place.

With its gentle handling techniques and guided physical exercises Tellington TTouch is a great way of working with your dog. TTouch can help dogs become more relaxed, focused and alert. This approach can help with a variety of problems including pulling on the lead, fear of loud noises, reactivity to other dogs and so on. TTouch also has benefits for dogs who compete as it can help to increase confidence and concentration during training and competition. For all dogs, throughout their stages of development from puppies to seniors, TTouch can help improve the dog's general well-being.
