Clicker Training
Clicker training is a great way of communicating with your dog using positive reinforcement. Effective and kind, this reward-based method helps your dog to learn new behaviours in small steps The clicker makes a unique sound that tells the dog "Yes, that's the behaviour I want" and promises her a reward for doing it. Dogs tend to repeat behaviour they find rewarding, so this is a very effective method. It also encourages dogs to problem-solve, which is an enjoyable way of learning for the dog. It is based on a scientific understanding of how dogs learn and makes training fun for both dog and owner.
This approach is used with dogs in a variety of situations, teaching
'doggy' manners for pet dogs eg walking on a loose lead, calm greetings
competition obedience
dance movements for Heelwork to Music,
specific behaviours for assistance dogs
This approach can also be very helpful in addressing a wide range of problem behaviours such as nervousness, fears, excessive barking, handling and grooming issues, pulling on the lead and so on.
Clicker 1 Workshop
provides an introduction to the techniques for those new to clicker training. We will cover the essentials of clicker training, considering how dogs learn and what we can do to help them learn effectively. Through the day you will have the chance to develop your observation and timing skills. You'll be practicing your clicker skills, helping your dog to learn new behaviours through some fun exercises.
Clicker 2 Workshop
helps you develop your skills further. We'll be practicing shaping and targeting, encouraging the dogs to be creative in their problem-solving. You will also get a chance to use your planning skills in designing training plans that break the learning into small steps so your dog can learn more easily. Then you get to try out your plans and sharpen your training skills.
